A nuclear medicine DMSA image of the kidneys in a 5-year old child demonstrates a wedge-shaped defect in the right kidney, representing an area of non-functioing tissue. This may indicate an area of infection or infarcted (dead) tissue.
The bright spot in the image (indicated by an arrow) corresponds to a Meckel's diverticulum. The normal stomach is seen in the upper right and the normal urinary bladder is seen at the very bottom.
