Radiology in Motion Video Clips

Now Playing: Angiography

Transcript:

When we want to get around in life it helps to have a map. When radiologists want to navigate in blood circulation or vascular system they use a radiological map called an angiogram. Using a small tube called a catheter, doctors inject a contrast agent that colors the blood. The flowing blood is then filmed using rapid x-ray or digital photography. If the pictures reveal that the blood isn’t flowing like it should, a stent may be used to widen narrow spots in the veins or arteries. An aneurysm, or weakness in a vessel wall, may be treated by inserting tiny coils to prevent rupture. When it comes to navigating the circulation of the body, doctors use angiography to chart a course for good health.

These video clips were originally created for broadcast in a family entertainment environment. They are designed for people of all ages as an upbeat and fast-paced educational tool on the most basic characteristics of radiology.
