Lung Cancer Screening
I am 50-years-old with a smoking history, do I qualify for Lung Cancer screening?
Yes. All individuals who are 50-80 years old with a 20 or more pack year smoking history, who are currently smoking or who have quit within the past 15 years are eligible for low dose CT screening of the lungs.
Should I be screened every year?
Yes, when you are enrolled in a lung cancer screening program you should be screened every year until you are 80 years old, or you have quit for more than 15 years.
Talk to your doctor about whether you are at increased risk for lung cancer. You may be at increased risk if:
- You have a history of tobacco smoking
- You have exposure to radon, asbestos or other cancer-causing agents
- You have a personal or family history of lung cancer
- You suffer from certain chronic lung diseases
Ask your doctor whether lung cancer screening is right for you. They will review your medical history and advise you on the benefits of lung cancer screening. If you qualify, your doctor may enroll you in a screening program.
