USPSTF Updates Lung Cancer Screening Guidelines
Lung cancer is the nation’s leading cause of cancer-related death. Early detection is key to survival. Studies have shown that low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening, as recommended by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), reduces lung cancer mortality.
The USPSTF has updated its lung cancer screening guidelines. It recommends annual screening for lung cancer with LDCT in adults age 50 to 80 who have a 20 pack-year smoking history and currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years.
